The municipal councils of Santa Eugènia de Berga and Tona have given the green light to their Catalan Boost Plans in plenary sessions held on September 21 and 24, respectively. These plans are strategic documents designed to guide municipal actions in promoting and fostering the social use of Catalan in the coming years.
The main objective of these plans is to strengthen the presence of Catalan in the daily lives of citizens and create more opportunities to learn, practice, and use the language normally in all areas. The planned measures include linguistic awareness actions, promotional activities, training for municipal staff, and linguistic reception initiatives for newcomers.
In Santa Eugènia de Berga, one of the first actions has been a workshop on linguistic best practices for the Town Hall's public-facing staff, aiming to reinforce habits that encourage the use of Catalan in interactions with citizens.
The development and implementation of these plans are carried out with the collaboration of the Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística (Consortium for Linguistic Normalization) and the Centre de Normalització Lingüística d'Osona (Osona Linguistic Normalization Center). Through this initiative, both municipalities are committed to a transversal linguistic policy involving municipal services, local entities, and the entire population.
With the approval of these two plans, Santa Eugènia de Berga and Tona position themselves as leading municipalities in Osona in structured municipal linguistic policies. Together with Seva and Collsuspina, there are now four town councils in the region that have approved a Catalan Boost Plan, a key tool for defining objectives, actions, and monitoring mechanisms to promote the presence and use of the language in all aspects of local life.
