Next week, a significant weather shift is expected in Catalonia with the arrival of a cold air mass of polar origin, leading to a notable drop in temperatures and the return of rain, especially from Wednesday onwards.

After a mild start to the week, with temperatures potentially reaching 25 ºC on Monday, the weather will begin to change on Tuesday with a slight thermal drop and afternoon showers, mainly in the pre-coastal and inland areas. Monday is expected to be sunny, with some isolated precipitation in the Pyrenees and the northeast.
The most significant change is anticipated from Wednesday, when a corridor of cold winds from the polar circle will reach the region. This situation will lead to a decrease in temperatures, with maximums falling below 20 ºC and minimums close to 10 ºC in central Barcelona. This cold air episode is expected to be most intense between Thursday and Saturday, making the atmosphere feel more like late winter or early spring.
The instability will also bring rain, with a higher probability in the regions of Barcelona and Girona between Thursday and Friday. These showers could be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in several areas, and even snow could be seen at relatively low altitudes for this time of year. On the northern slopes of the Pyrenees, snow might appear above 1,200 meters.
In addition to rain and cold, wind will also be an important factor. From Wednesday, the mistral could intensify in the Terres de l'Ebre and the tramontana in the Empordà, which could lead to increased sea disturbance, especially between Thursday and Friday. This week, therefore, is expected to be cooler than usual for May, with the possibility of watering the territory after a record-breaking April in terms of temperatures.
