The piece, named Gloria, is the result of an agreement between the Castelldefels City Council and Quinn, a resident of the city for over three decades. This week, the council has already dedicated a spot to the artist on its particular walk of fame.
Through this agreement, the artist donates between eight and twelve sculptures free of charge, valued at six million euros, which will be placed at various strategic points throughout the city. These works are temporarily loaned, transforming Castelldefels into an open-air museum. The agreement also includes the commissioning of the Gloria sculpture, which will become an icon of the town and will be municipal property.
“"The city council will actively participate in the realization of the work 'Gloria', assuming part of the manufacturing cost of this prominent sculptural piece. The work will be made entirely of aluminum, will have approximate dimensions of 260 centimeters in height and an estimated weight of 700 kilograms."
The total manufacturing cost is estimated at 75,000 euros, of which 50,000 euros will be covered by the City Council. The artist will bear the remaining difference and waive any fees for the creation of the work, thus making a significant altruistic and cultural contribution to the municipality. The Gloria sculpture has an approximate artistic valuation of 650,000 euros, according to the council, taking into account its dimensions, technical complexity, and the market value of other works by the author.
