The new board of the Association of Merchants and Businesspeople of Castelló d'Empúries and Empuriabrava aims to create sectoral fairs to attract more visitors and businesses, seeking to de-seasonalize tourism.

The association's leadership, reactivated in late 2018 and with a new board since last year, has expressed its enthusiasm for implementing new ideas to transform local commerce and boost economic activity in Castelló d'Empúries and Empuriabrava. The entity seeks to restore the municipality to a leading commercial position within the region.
Among the main difficulties faced by the association, the lack of resources, both economic and human, stands out. The board members are busy entrepreneurs, which creates a need for more support to maintain the entity's activity and physical presence.
One of the key objectives of the new leadership is to unify commercial activities between the old town of Castelló d'Empúries and the more touristy area of Empuriabrava. The aim is to leverage the flow of over 90,000 annual visitors and improve the municipality's aesthetics to attract more businesses and residents. Furthermore, efforts are being made to de-seasonalize tourism, with businesses open all year round and a growing focus on local customers.

"Without commerce, there is no life in the streets. All businesses provide economic activity to the municipality, create jobs, and generate a lot of activity."

The association currently has 148 members and maintains a good relationship with the City Council's Economic Promotion department. Among future projects, the creation of a couple of sectoral fairs is planned for the coming year. One of them will focus on the home business, including the real estate sector and renovations, and will be scheduled after the Used Boat Fair, which takes place in Empuriabrava during Easter Week.
