Castellvell del Camp is preparing to celebrate its Santa Anna Festival this July with an extensive program designed for all audiences. The celebration, organized by the Culture and Festivals departments with the collaboration of local entities, merges tradition, popular culture, music, family activities, sports, solidarity, and religious events.
Mayor Josep Sabaté highlighted the program's variety, including emblematic events such as the Opening Proclamation, the 'Diada Castellera' (human tower gathering), the Great 'Gegantera' (giants) Meeting, the 'diables' (devils) performance, and religious ceremonies, alongside children's activities, popular events, music, and solidarity initiatives culminating in a fireworks display.
This year, the Opening Proclamation will be delivered by Anna Sordé Martí, an choice the mayor explained as a tribute to those who, despite living far away, return annually to celebrate the festival, symbolizing the bond and roots with the town.
The program kicks off on Friday, July 17th, with a solidarity concert by Sons de la Cossetània at Maria Rosa Solé Gaspà square, which will include a food drive for the Food Bank. The following day, Saturday, July 18th, there will be Children's Wooden Games with a solidarity collection and the XXXIII Night Walk starting from the Sports Court.
On Sunday, July 19th, Catalunya square will host the V 'Diada Castellera' with the participation of Xiquets de Reus and Xiquets de Cambrils, followed by a 'Vermut Xaranguero' with the Xaranga Bufacanyes band.
Throughout the week, highlights include the Omelette Contest organized by the Senior Citizens Association, family circus shows, participatory games, outdoor cinema, a Water Gymkhana, and children's workshops about the world of the 'diables'. On Thursday, July 23rd, the emotional Tribute to the Elderly will take place.
On Friday, July 24th, the traditional 'Pujada del Pregó' (Proclamation Ascent) will feature the town's festive elements accompanying the proclaimer and the municipal corporation. After Anna Sordé Martí's Proclamation, there will be performances by the festive elements, a Citizen 'Pica-pica' (snack), a fire show by the Banyuts de Castellvell, and popular dinners.
On Saturday, July 25th, the Great 'Gegantera' Meeting will take place with invited groups from various towns, parading through the streets before the final dance in Catalunya square. The night will conclude with the traditional Festival Ball at the Sports Court featuring the Orquestra La Catalana.
On Santa Anna's day, Sunday, July 26th, the festivities will begin with religious services and include the Catalan Skittles Tournament, the General 'Remullada' (refreshment), and the 'Trobada d'Annes' (Meeting of Annes). The Festival will close at 11:00 PM with the traditional fireworks display.
