The Government of Catalonia has reached an agreement with the Bank of Spain to purchase seven floors of its iconic building in Barcelona's Plaça Catalunya for 58.4 million euros.

This strategic move involves over 13,000 square meters of office space and is expected to accommodate 700 public employees. The administration estimates an annual saving of 4.5 million euros by eliminating rental payments for various dispersed offices across the city.

"The building was clearly underutilized and I wanted to talk to the Catalan authorities so that this building could have a much greater utility."

A further 36.9 million euros will be invested in renovating the premises, with the final move scheduled for 2033. Meanwhile, the Bank of Spain will continue its operations in the remaining floors, focusing on a new Artificial Intelligence laboratory led by Ignasi Belda.
