Catalan police officer on trial for forging C2 language certificate

The defense argues the forgery was so poor that it failed to enter the legal circuit or cause harm.

A Mossa d'Esquadra officer appeared this Monday before the Barcelona Court accused of forging a C2 level Catalan certificate to gain points for an internal promotion.

The 7th section of the Barcelona Court held the trial against the officer. Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of one year and nine months in prison and a 2,700 euro fine for falsifying an official document.
The officer allegedly used a registration number from a certificate posted on the social network X by another person. When she uploaded the document to the police internal system, Human Resources staff immediately flagged it as a crude forgery.

"The document was so clumsy that at first glance the specialists already realized it was fake."

The defense is asking for an acquittal, arguing that the forgery was so obvious it could not have deceived anyone and therefore should not be considered a criminal offense under the principle of atypical conduct.
