The People's Party of Catalonia is holding its first congress in eight years in Barcelona this Saturday, where Alejandro Fernández will be re-elected president as the sole candidate.

After eight years, the People's Party of Catalonia is holding its congress in Barcelona. Alejandro Fernández, who took over the presidency in November 2018, is the sole candidate and his re-election is expected. Fernández has described his tenure leading the party as walking "on a tightrope", particularly due to his disagreements with the PP leadership in Madrid, headed by Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
During the congress, a new political paper, coordinated by senator Juan Milián, will be debated. The document aims to define the party's strategy, avoiding discussions on potential post-election alliances. According to Milián, the goal is "to be a governing party that unites the aspirations of the vast majority of Catalans", focusing on "liberty, order, and prosperity".
Immigration is one of the key topics of the paper, incorporating aspects of the plan presented by Feijóo. It proposes greater control and refers to a concept of "Islamist fundamentalism", which the paper's coordinator, Juan Milián, has clarified does not refer to the religion itself, but to "that totalitarian ideology that attacks equality between men and women and democratic principles".
This congress is anticipated to be one of the "calmest" for the PPC, with differences between Fernández and Feijóo seemingly smoothed over and internal disputes among party factions deactivated. The new leadership, which Alejandro Fernández will announce today, will include the replacement of Santi Rodríguez as secretary general.
With this renewal, the Catalan PP aims to prepare for the new electoral cycle, including the upcoming municipal elections and the general elections scheduled for 2027, where they hope to strengthen their presence and contribute to a victory for Feijóo.
