The succession of rainy fronts that began in January has allowed Catalonia to overcome the most significant drought of the last century. This situation has boosted the reservoirs to reach maximum capacity levels not recorded since 2020. Following storms Francis, Goretti, Harry, and Ingrid, storm Joseph now takes over.
This meteorological episode is associated with the Fujiwhara effect, a collision between two interacting storms, prolonging the rain episodes. The forecast for Wednesday announces contrasts, with clear skies on the coast and persistent rain in southern Tarragona. Intermittent showers will reactivate between the regions of Barcelona and Lleida, with snow in the Lleida Pyrenees starting at 900 meters.
The most notable feature of the day will be the significant drop in temperatures, which will hover around 10ºC maximum on the coast and 5ºC inland, creating a full winter atmosphere.
The cold and shower situation will continue during Thursday morning, especially in the western half. However, an atmospheric improvement is expected by Friday, with the return of the sun to eastern Catalonia and precipitation limited to the far west of Lleida. The weekend will be calm, although instability will concentrate in the Girona regions during the early hours of Saturday.
