The autonomous community of Catalonia is recovering from the Arctic cold air mass that caused historic lows. Last Wednesday, the Observatori Fabra in Barcelona registered a minimum of -2.5ºC, the lowest temperature recorded in the city since February 2018.
This Thursday, the weather returns to normal with the disappearance of fog and a thermal rise of between 5 and 8 degrees, with maximums expected between 10 and 15ºC. However, Meteocat has activated strong wind warnings for the coastal and pre-coastal areas.
The orange warning affects Alt Penedès and Baix Penedès, while the yellow warning extends along the entire coast from Baix Camp to Selva, including the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees in Lleida.
Looking ahead to Friday, the arrival of Storm Goretti, featuring an explosive cyclogenesis, will intensify the storm. This phenomenon, caused by the clash of extremely cold and warm air masses, will generate intense winds of up to 100 km/h and extend warnings to the central depression and regions such as Baix Llobregat, Anoia, Segarra, and Baix Penedès.
Snowfall will continue in the Pyrenees, with the snow line dropping to 800 meters. Meteocat maintains the orange warning for snow in Vall d'Aran and Pallars Sobirà, and the yellow warning in Alta Ribagorça throughout the weekend.
