The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) presented a strategic project this Friday in Barcelona involving four mobile pilot plants designed to capture and reuse CO2 emissions.

During the BIST Forum 2026 at CosmoCaixa, experts detailed how these itinerant units will test decarbonization technologies in hard-to-abate sectors like cement and petrochemicals. The project is supported by Eurecat and the Rovira i Virgili University.

"Our goal is to make these technologies viable and scalable for the market."

With a total investment of 27 million euros, including EU FEDER funds, the units will be manufactured starting in 2026. These mobile laboratories aim to transform CO2 into a valuable asset, helping Catalonia meet European Union climate neutrality goals by 2050.
