Catalonia emerges as a leading destination for camping tourism, boasting the country's best establishment on the Costa Brava and a significant 25.9% increase in overnight stays during the first quarter of the year.

The camping sector in Catalonia is experiencing sustained growth, attracting both residents and tourists. According to INE data, total overnight stays rose by 15.7% in March compared to the previous year, with a 29.4% increase for residents and 7.7% for non-residents. At the regional level, the increase during the first quarter of 2026 was 25.9%, according to Idescat.
This boom can be attributed to improved facilities, featuring designer bungalows that rival luxury hotels. Increasingly, users seek connection with nature, digital detox, and a reduction in urban stress, finding an ideal environment for mental well-being and physical activity in the open, uncrowded spaces of campsites.
Catalonia leads the nation with 351 campsites and 267,507 pitches. Camping tradition is strong, with over 50% of guests being Catalans. However, Girona stands out with 80% foreign clients and 72 associated establishments, making it the province with the largest offering.

Camping La Ballena Alegre, located in Sant Pere Pescador (Alt Empordà), has been recognized as the best campsite in Spain and fourth in Europe by the Acsi organization.

This establishment, with over 1,100 pitches and a score of 8.5 out of 10, offers everything from bungalows to pitches for tents and caravans. The vote, cast by European campers, also awarded other categories such as the best swimming pool, a prize won by the Sangulí campsite & Resort in Salou (Tarragonès) for its themed water parks.
This diversity of offerings positions Catalonia as an excellent choice for family getaways, promoting disconnection and enjoyment of the natural environment.
