The weekend in Catalonia will be characterized by the arrival of clouds covering a large part of the sky, bringing moderate showers to various regions. Despite this change, temperatures will not see a significant drop, remaining above 30 degrees Celsius for highs and 25 degrees for lows.
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has issued three alerts: one for intense daytime heat, another for nighttime mugginess, and a third for rain intensity. This Friday, after a sunny morning, clouds will appear in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and coastal ranges. In the afternoon, showers with thunderstorms and localized hail are expected in these areas and along the coast, extending towards the central regions and the western third. Rainfall will be light to moderate and could bring mud.
Minimum and maximum temperatures will increase compared to Thursday. Highs are expected around 40 degrees in Ponent and between 34 and 39 degrees in the rest of the interior. Meteocat has activated a Severe Weather Warning for Heat (level 3 of 6) in the inland counties and along the coast of Barcelona and Tarragona. The nighttime heat will also persist, with a level 2 of 6 alert primarily affecting the coast of Barcelona and the southern coastline.
For Saturday, cloud cover is expected to increase across the country, with skies becoming overcast shortly before noon. Showers will begin in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, as well as in inland areas, particularly in the northern and western third. These showers will be light to moderate, with possible thunderstorms and hail, and intense rainfall is not ruled out. Meteocat has issued a level 1 of 6 alert for rain intensity in 30 minutes in counties such as Segrià, Noguera, Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà, Alta Ribagorça, and Vall d’Aran.
The weather situation is expected to improve by Sunday, with no official alerts and a slight drop in temperatures, although cloudiness will remain.
