The Girona-based writer Cesc Cornet has published his new novel, Les ombres que ens acompanyen, a thriller intertwining three seemingly unconnected stories in Barcelona and Biscay.

Cesc Cornet's new work, published by Columna, is a thriller that maintains tension until the very last page. The author explained that his goal was to create a complex novel, like a giant puzzle, where macabre coincidences are the common thread.

"I wanted to talk about coincidences, but macabre ones."

The writer revealed that the inspiration for this theme comes from a personal experience with surprising coincidences. The novel features three independent plots: a strange accident, the disappearance of a popular presenter and singer, and the discovery of a body in the home of a prestigious surgeon.
Cornet emphasized the importance of building realistic characters, moving away from typical crime genre stereotypes. His characters, including the pairs of Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) who appear in the novel, are normal people with everyday lives and problems, which, according to him, adds depth and verisimilitude to the story.

"The most normal people are the most ruthless killers."

The author, who describes himself as a keen reader of crime novels, places special emphasis on impactful beginnings and unexpected endings. He confessed that, initially, the novel did not have an epilogue, but his editor suggested adding one, which ultimately turned out to be "very brutal".
