The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, delivered this Saturday the keys to 40 plots at the Can Mestres urban garden in Sants-Montjuïc, specifically designated for the city's elderly residents.

This agricultural space, located in the Sants-Montjuïc district, holds historical significance as the first site of the Xarxa d'Horts Urbans (Urban Garden Network) launched by the Institut Municipal de Parcs i Jardins in 1997.
In total, the Can Mestres site features 50 plots. Ten of these have already been assigned to non-profit organizations, while the remaining 40 have now been granted to new users who will begin cultivation this March.
This action is part of a city-wide allocation process taking place across all 10 districts. Barcelona currently manages 15 urban gardens distributed throughout the city to promote active aging and community bonding.
