Mayor Jaume Collboni presented this Monday a plan to transform the 12.7-hectare marine platform in Barcelona, the final section of the city's coastline awaiting urban development.

The municipal Government proposal includes an investment of 52 million euros over six years. The goal is to convert this area, located between Rambla de Prim and the Fòrum, into an open space for sports, cultural activities, and large-scale events like the Primavera Sound festival.
This coastal sector has seen several failed projects since the turn of the century, including the cancelled marine zoo proposed during Jordi Hereu's term. The current reform aims to finally connect the city with the sea and relocate facilities such as the Poblenou-Agapito Fernández football field.

"It is a design intended for large-scale activities, with capacities incompatible with the existence of a park and exclusively for private interest."

Opposition groups have met the announcement with skepticism. Junts per Barcelona criticized the lack of consensus, while Barcelona en Comú and ERC warned about the potential 'privatization' of public space and noise issues.
