The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has announced the intention to bring back to a vote the regulation for the use of Taser guns by the Guardia Urbana, a measure that was rejected a year ago.

Following the primaries held by Junts in Barcelona, which have determined their mayoral candidate for 2027, Mayor Collboni believes it is an opportune moment to reopen the discussion on equipping the Guardia Urbana with Taser guns. This issue had previously been stalled.
Approximately a year ago, the regulation permitting the use of these electric weapons was defeated in a plenary session. Although both Collboni and Junts had expressed support for the measure, the party voted against it, citing a lack of dialogue with police unions.
The mayor stated that the Guardia Urbana and the city require this tool. While a precise date has not been set, the proposal is expected to be presented at the upcoming plenary session, possibly in July. Collboni also took the opportunity to congratulate Jordi Martí Galbis on his victory in the Junts primaries.
