The political formation has publicly denounced what it considers discriminatory treatment by the Barcelona city council. According to the CUP, they have been prevented from setting up a stall in the area of Rambla de Catalunya traditionally reserved for political parties during the Sant Jordi festival, while, in the same space, a stall has been authorized for the Spanish police.
“"It is inadmissible that the City Council allows a Sant Jordi stall for the Spanish police on Rambla Catalunya while denying it to the CUP. What kind of city model is this? Have you no shame!"
In a statement, the party described the situation as inadmissible and directly questioned the city's mayor, challenging the city model promoted by these decisions. For the CUP, this management of public space during a popular festival like Sant Jordi shows a clear political bias.
Despite this exclusion from the central area, the CUP has confirmed that it will have stalls in other parts of Barcelona, including El Born, Poblenou, Sants, Sant Andreu, Nou Barris, and Eixample. The formation has assured that, despite the difficulties imposed by the City Council, they will maintain their presence in the city.
These stalls, many of which are set up with the collaboration of local community centers and entities, will combine the celebration of the Sant Jordi festival with political demands, a characteristic aspect of the CUP's proposal.
