The current Barcelona Ombudsman, David Bondia, confirmed his candidacy for a second term as Mayor Jaume Collboni initiated the official appointment process scheduled to begin on March 16.

The selection process features a significant change: Jaume Collboni has abolished the non-binding public voting system introduced by Ada Colau in 2016. The administration argues that these votes were not part of the official Ombudsman regulations.

"This approach has strengthened the Ombudsman's ability to detect violations, intervene in complex situations, and guarantee the right to the city."

Bondia highlighted his work in social mediation, specifically mentioning housing disputes like Casa Orsola. The final decision will be made by the City Council in July, requiring a two-thirds majority for the appointment.
