A debate series titled 'La (Des)memòria com a símptoma' begins in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat to reflect on ninety years since the Spanish Civil War and its influence on the present.

Marking the ninetieth anniversary of the start of the Spanish Civil War, the organization L'H Espai de Debat has launched an initiative to analyze how this historical period continues to shape current reality. The series, named 'La (Des)memòria com a símptoma' (The (Dis)memory as a Symptom), aims to foster dialogue and raise questions about democratic memory.
This proposal is organized in collaboration with the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM), affiliated with the Fundació Solidaritat UB, and supported by the Ateneu Memòria Popular. The seminar will bring together experts from various disciplines to address fundamental topics, such as the construction of narratives about the war and the dictatorship, the role of memory spaces in education, and citizen actions to preserve collective remembrance.
The program, structured into four sessions during the month of April, will offer diverse perspectives. It will include an introduction to memory policies and an exploration of the role of women during the 1936 Revolution. The pedagogical use of memorial heritage and the current relevance of memory organizations as tools for democratic resistance will also be discussed.
The sessions will take place on April 7, 9, 14, and 16, from 6 PM to 8 PM, at Josep Maria de Sagarra street, 29. Access is free and no prior registration is required. Furthermore, students attending the series can earn one ECTS credit recognized by the Universitat de Barcelona.
