The Unit for Assistance and Assessment of Victims of Terrorism (UAVAT) has called on the Barcelona City Council to restore a memorial lectern in Plaça de Castella dedicated to the victims of a 1977 far-right attack.

The memorial was first installed in 2017 to mark the 40th anniversary of the bombing of the satirical magazine El Papus. It honors the staff and specifically Joan Peñalver Sandoval, a building caretaker who was killed in the explosion during the Spanish transition to democracy.

"What we are asking for is for it to be put back. We already waited until 2017 for it to be installed and, shortly after, it was removed."

The political group Barcelona en Comú raised the issue during a council meeting, seeking explanations for the disappearance of the monument. They highlighted that the site in the Raval neighborhood had been vandalized several times before its removal.
City officials from the Memory Department stated that the lectern was removed due to local construction work. They confirmed that a new version is currently in production and will be reinstalled in the square shortly.
