The Barcelona City Council has launched a major urban transformation in the El Clot neighborhood, demolishing several historic buildings on Consell de Cent street to expand the Glòries park area.

The renovation of the plaza's northern facade, spanning the blocks between Independència and Castillejos streets, has turned the area into a landscape of empty lots. Notable losses include the Esmili Escat houses, designed by architect Federico de Arias Rey.
Near Dos de Maig street, some low-rise houses still stand but are slated for removal. This area will eventually house the Gaia School by 2027, moving the educational center from its current temporary structures into a permanent facility.
A significant luxury residential project by Conren Tramway Diez is also underway at the Diagonal avenue junction. Two towers of 14 and 12 floors will be built, featuring 102 high-end apartments and three swimming pools.
