The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a man and a woman in the Horta-Guinardó district after they attempted to steal jewelry from an 86-year-old woman by posing as gas inspectors.

The incident occurred on May 8th, when the two suspects, aged 28 and 23, gained access to the victim's home under the guise of a technical inspection. The perpetrators had previously contacted the woman by phone, threatening her with a 300-euro fine if she did not allow access to her home for the inspection.
The arrest was made possible thanks to the surveillance of an undercover Mossos d'Esquadra officer, who noticed suspicious behavior as the individuals entered the building. Upon being intercepted by the police, the man was found carrying several stolen pieces of jewelry, valued between 3,600 and 4,000 euros.
The detainees, who already had prior records for property crimes, have been charged with theft. The police remind citizens of the importance of always verifying the identity of technicians before allowing them into any home.
