The Barcelona local police, Guàrdia Urbana, reported that driver distraction was responsible for 1,595 accidents in 2025, making it the city's primary cause of road incidents.

This figure represents a 3.44% increase in accidents caused by lack of focus compared to 2024. Following distractions, the failure to maintain a safe braking distance was the second most common cause, resulting in 969 accidents across the city.
Regarding Catalonia as a whole, the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) has recorded 13 deaths on interurban roads during the first two months of 2026. This is a significant improvement, with nine fewer fatalities than during the same period last year.
Other dangerous behaviors highlighted by authorities include illegal turns, dangerous lane changes, and ignoring traffic lights. Barcelona remains the province with the highest number of road victims in the region.
