The appointments became effective during the ESID 2026 congress, held in Maastricht from October 14-17. ESID working groups are international teams that drive collaborative projects to improve the diagnosis, monitoring, and research of inborn errors of immunity (IEI).
Dr. Roger Colobran, head of the Immunogenetics Area at Vall d'Hebron, will lead the genetics group, focusing on genetic data exchange and the incorporation of new diagnostic technologies. "It is an honor and a great responsibility to take on leadership," stated Colobran, highlighting the rapid evolution of genetics in IEI.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jacques Rivière, a pediatrician in the Pediatric Infectious Pathology and Immunodeficiencies Unit at Vall d'Hebron, will head the registry group. This group is responsible for maintaining the European registry of IEI patients, a key tool for epidemiological studies and the development of new therapeutic strategies. "The registry is a fundamental tool for transforming data into useful knowledge," affirms Rivière.
Vall d'Hebron professionals presented seven works at the congress, including immunological analyses, data on post-transplant immune reconstitution, improvements in ESID registry interoperability, and studies on immune dysregulation. Janire Perurena's work on immunophenotyping received the best poster award in its session.
These appointments and participation in the congress are part of Vall d'Hebron's sustained commitment to the care, diagnosis, and research of IEI, consolidating its position as an internationally recognized center of reference.
