The Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, has requested an increase in the presence of the Mossos d'Esquadra in Barcelona's Zona Franca after two fatal shootings occurred in less than a month on Mineria street.

This Sunday night saw the second fatal shooting in the area, linked by investigation sources to a confrontation between Eastern European mafias. This incident follows the first murder that took place on May 16th on the same street.
Following the Pope's visit, scheduled for this Tuesday, Parlon has a meeting planned with the Barcelona City Council to define reinforcement strategies. The minister believes the Kanpai plan could be a useful tool for the Zona Franca.
Furthermore, Parlon advocated for stricter legislation on firearm possession, both in Catalonia and at the state level, during an event in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.
The Mossos d'Esquadra have launched an investigation to clarify the causes and authorship of the events. The victim of the second murder, around 40 years old, has not yet been identified, a key factor in determining the motive. Despite resuscitation attempts by the SEM, the individual died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The first deceased, of Dominican origin, also sustained several shots, one to the head, in what is suspected to be an execution. Currently, there are no detainees related to either case.
The councilor for Sants-Montjuïc, Raquel Gil, has conveyed a message of calm to residents, linking these incidents to international organized crime rather than local neighborhood dynamics.
