Following the controversy generated by the incorporation of Mossos d'Esquadra agents as community figures in some educational centers, the Department of Education has sought to clarify that the final decision on their actions will always rest with school management. These agents, who already had a prior relationship with the schools, will work in plain clothes and unarmed, without entering classrooms.
“"The origin of this program stems from the demand of territorial services, which in turn collect requests from the management of educational centers."
The department has insisted that the initiative responds to a demand from the centers themselves and that the agents' function will be to support teaching staff in conflict resolution, with an emphasis on prevention. It has been assured that their presence will not replace any existing educational resources or imply changes in the staff of teachers or educators.
The minister emphasized that the project will not be imposed on any center that does not wish to participate, and that the 14 centers taking part in the pilot program do so on a completely voluntary basis. These centers, located in six different educational zones such as Val d'Aran, l'Urgell, Vic, Sabadell, El Prat de Llobregat, and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, present diverse realities and have not been selected exclusively for their high social complexity.
“"It is not a punitive, sanctioning, or surveillance model."
Furthermore, it has been highlighted that, although there is no widespread security problem in Catalan schools, the growing social complexity is transferred to the daily life of educational centers, making this measure necessary as a response to a structural need rather than a punctual emergency.
