The first day of the strike, which took place this Tuesday 12, led to demonstrations and road closures in various parts of the territory. In L'Hospitalet, teachers participated in the closure of the Gran Via at the height of Can Batlló.
The Department of Business and Labor of the Generalitat has established minimum services for this day. For early childhood, primary, and secondary education, one member of the management team and one teacher for every three classrooms have been set. Nurseries must guarantee one member of the management and 33% of the staff, while special education centers (3 to 16 years old) must maintain 50% of the staff. For dining and leisure services, 50% of the staff has been determined for dining, reception, kitchen, and attention to students with special needs.
“"Without a dignified proposal, this academic year will not end normally."
This new wave of strikes arises from the rejection by the convening unions of the agreement signed by the Government with CCOO and UGT, which they consider was made "behind the back of the majority." The main objective is for the Generalitat to resume negotiations to address their demands.
The unions' demands include the recovery of teachers' purchasing power and the guarantee of decent salaries, increased educational investment to reduce ratios and improve student care, the elimination of bureaucratic overload through a negotiated plan, and the review of curricula with teacher participation. The unions warn that the current measures of the Department do not respond to the sector's demands.
In L'Hospitalet, a strike for the 0-3 age group already took place on Thursday 7, which will be repeated on Wednesday 20. Additionally, on Monday 18, the city will be affected by the territorial strike called in the area of the Consorci and Barcelonès. General strike days across Catalonia will be repeated on Wednesday 27 and Friday, June 5. A meeting between the education minister and the unions is scheduled for Thursday 14 at the Department's headquarters, on Via Augusta in Barcelona.
