The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has announced the intention to resume the proposal to incorporate electric stun guns into the Urban Guard, seeking a new consensus in the plenary session.

The municipal government considers the current moment ideal to reopen the discussion on this equipment. The goal is to provide officers with an intermediate tool that allows for managing risky situations without having to resort to the use of firearms.
The measure, which was already rejected in a previous vote in June of last year, will be presented again before the plenary session. As the mayor indicated, the decision to reactivate the project responds to a request from the police force's command.

"It is evident that if the Urban Guard and its commanders ask us for this instrument, the municipal government will attend to it and we will bring it back to the plenary session."

The debate over electric stun guns has been a recurring issue in local politics. While supporters highlight their utility in subduing violent individuals with less danger, critics point to health risks and demand stricter control protocols.
The executive has not set a specific date for the new vote, making it conditional on the existence of real possibilities to reach a sufficient agreement among the political forces represented in the City Council.
