The new digital newspaper El Mercurio de Barcelona, launching on April 23, has established the MERCURIO Award to annually honor the achievements of Latin American migrants and the work of Barcelona-based entities in integrating the community.

This award's main objective is to highlight individuals and organizations who, from various disciplines, use their platform to build bridges of dialogue, integration, and cooperation between the Latin American community and Barcelona society. The initiative seeks to underscore the richness of interculturality and mutual recognition as drivers of social progress and shared prosperity.
The Minister of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Eva Menor, will present the first MERCURIO Award on June 15 at Espai Línia in Barcelona. The event aims to pay tribute to the life stories connecting both sides of the Atlantic, celebrating coexistence and diversity.

The MERCURIO Award specifically aims to highlight the network of alliances created in Barcelona. Therefore, it rewards in two directions: on the one hand, the talent and resilience of the Latin American migrant, and on the other, the work of those local entities that facilitate integration and equal opportunities.

The award jury will comprise Àlex Mendoza, director of El Mercurio de Barcelona, David Centol, editor of Grup Comunicació 21, and three other experts in migration, journalism, and social activism. This honorary recognition will consider the efforts, practices, and initiatives of the honorees.
El Mercurio de Barcelona, which advocates for the rights and visibility of the migrant community through its journalistic pieces, positions itself as a meeting platform to foster understanding and personal and collective development. The award also champions Barcelona's potential as an innovative, plural, and welcoming city.
