The papal vehicle landed at the corporate terminal of El Prat this Sunday midday, surrounded by a large security operation. Shortly after 12:40 PM, the popemobile left the airport premises, covered with tarpaulins and under the protection of various police units, including the National Police, the Civil Guard, and plainclothes officers.
The logistical operation, which proceeded without incident, is part of the preparatory work for the pontiff's trip to the Catalan capital, scheduled from June 9 to 11. Once outside the airport, the convoy proceeded to a secret location for its custody and preparation.
The specialized account Trànsit Aeri Catalunya had already announced the vehicle's arrival, reporting the approach of an Airbus A400M aircraft from the Spanish Air and Space Force originating from Rome, which presumably transported the popemobile and other necessary equipment.
During his visit, the pontiff will undertake several popemobile journeys. On Tuesday, June 9, he will greet the public at the Olympic Stadium of Montjuïc. The following day, he will travel a few meters in Montserrat before praying the Rosary in the basilica. Finally, on Wednesday, June 10, he will travel one kilometer through the center of Barcelona, from the Episcopal Palace to the Sagrada Familia, where he will celebrate a mass and bless the Tower of Jesus Christ.
The papal visit will involve a significant security operation, with over 6,000 officers from the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Guardia Urbana. Traffic disruptions are expected, particularly in the Eixample district, and the Sagrada Familia metro station will be closed on the 10th. The coordination center will be located at the Mossos' headquarters in Egara. Giant screens will be installed at Glòries and the Arc de Triomf.
