The spokesperson for Élite Taxi, Tito Álvarez, announced on Monday in Barcelona a proposal to allow VTC drivers to exchange their current licenses for temporary taxi permits.

The initiative aims to integrate 4,000 drivers into the taxi sector for a period of seven years. This amendment to the upcoming Catalan Taxi Law seeks to stabilize the market and ensure a consistent supply of vehicles for citizens while removing dynamic pricing models.

"Everyone has to give in at some point to guarantee more taxi supply when citizens need it most."

The proposal also introduces a new High Availability Authorization for VTCs, requiring a two-hour advance booking. Furthermore, all vehicles must be equipped with GPS tracking connected to public data infrastructure, allowing authorities to issue digital fines to both drivers and platforms for any regulatory breaches.
