More than 300 medical professionals gathered this Wednesday at Plaça de Sant Jaume in Barcelona to demand urgent measures from the Government to address work overload.

The protest, which took place in front of the Palau de la Generalitat, is part of the eleventh day of strikes called by the union Metges de Catalunya since the autumn. Physicians are demanding concrete solutions to reduce the pressure on the healthcare system and ensure the quality of patient care.
Although the union supports protests taking place at a national level, medical representatives emphasized that the Generalitat has the necessary powers to address their demands. In this regard, they have urged the president of the Generalitat to open an effective negotiation process.
As a pressure tactic, the union has asked professionals not to take on additional or voluntary work. The goal of this call is to make it visible that the current functioning of the healthcare system relies heavily on the constant overexertion of the staff.
