The Department of Education and Vocational Training is processing the distribution of 100 million euros intended for the renovation, adaptation, and improvement (RAM) of schools through a specific financial cooperation program. Of these funds, nearly 63.6 million euros have already been assigned to 478 municipalities, accounting for 66.1% of the 723 municipalities eligible for this initiative.
This distribution is part of a series of resolutions. An initial publication in July approved the allocation of 6.8 million euros to 74 municipalities. Currently, the Department is finalizing the publication of a second resolution that will amount to an additional 56.8 million euros for 404 municipalities. The remaining grants will be announced in subsequent official publications.
The allocation of resources is based on efficiency and equity criteria. Approximately 52 million euros are allocated based on the number of students aged 3 to 12 enrolled in public schools. Another module of 41.5 million euros is calculated according to the age of the buildings, prioritizing those constructed or fully renovated before 2007 that are not owned by Infraestructuras.cat. Finally, 6.5 million euros are reserved for the rurality criterion, considering the municipality's classification and its enrolled student population.
Municipalities will decide on the specific works to be carried out, which must aim to adapt centers to current needs, extend their useful life, and ensure a healthier and more efficient environment. Interventions include replacing obsolete architectural elements or installations such as roofs, windows, boilers, or bathrooms, improving building envelopes, installing management and control systems (home automation, automation), and removing asbestos.
