The Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya federation in Barcelona is holding new internal elections to choose its leadership, with candidacies from Rosa Suriñach and Ricard Farin as the main contenders, just one year after the last congress.

Ballot boxes are returning to the ERC Barcelona Federation within an unusually short period, barely a year after the last congress that elected Creu Camacho to lead the party in the Catalan capital. Her tenure, however, was brief, as after six months, more than half of the standing committee resigned, citing disagreements with her methods, which precipitated the call for a new congress.
In this new electoral process, two candidacies have been presented. On one hand, Ricard Farin leads the Activem Barcelona list, which some consider the officialist candidacy, close to the national leadership of the party, including figures like Oriol Junqueras and Elisenda Alamany. However, the members of the candidacy reject this label, emphasizing the diversity of internal support.

"We have people who voted for different options in the last congress, both in Barcelona and in the national congress."

The other option is Construïm Esquerra Barcelona, led by Rosa Suriñach, which includes members of the resigned executive, such as the number two, Nil Font. This candidacy is presented with the desire to renew the federation and provide it with strong political leadership from Barcelona, with the aim of creating a space for debate and internal disagreement.

"We are not the resignees: we are a team that wants to build a strong federation, with political leadership, to set the course from Barcelona."

Both candidacies are aware of the proximity of the municipal elections, scheduled for one year from now, and express their unconditional support for the ERC candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Elisenda Alamany, who obtained the majority support of the membership in primaries without other aspirants.
Suriñach argues that members should vote for her candidacy to ensure their voice has political impact and to foster a party that involves its members. For his part, Farin proposes voting for Activem Barcelona to overcome the "noise" and "blockage" of recent months, looking to the future to ensure that ERC Barcelona once again serves its members and the city.
