The general secretary of ERC, Elisenda Alamany, stated this Monday that Salvador Illa's Government should refrain from presenting the 2026 budget without first securing the necessary parliamentary support.

The pro-independence party has set the regional collection of IRPF (income tax) as a non-negotiable condition. Alamany urged the PSC to coordinate with their PSOE colleagues in Madrid to unblock this fiscal demand before formal budget talks can begin.

"Without having the votes tied down, it is better that the Government does not present a budget."

Meanwhile, Jordi Turull from Junts expressed doubts about ERC's firm stance during a protest at Sants station in Barcelona. Turull accused ERC of repeatedly accepting minor concessions from the central government while abandoning core economic sovereignty goals.
