Construction work to expand access to the El Coll neighborhood, Barcelona.

Expansion works to improve access to the El Coll neighborhood, near Park Güell, have commenced with a budget of 3.6 million euros and a duration of 17 months.

Construction work has begun to transform an area of over 2,700 square meters that provides access to the upper part of the El Coll neighborhood, in the Gràcia district, bordering Horta-Guinardó, within the influence zone of Park Güell. The project focuses on the intersection of Ceuta and Santuari streets up to Portell and Tirso streets, and also includes the ascent of Ceuta street to the homes at numbers 60 and 62.
The objective is to completely reorganize this area, known as a bottleneck due to its steep slope and narrow sidewalks, which causes mobility problems for vehicles and buses. The renovation will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians, especially for students of the three educational centers in the area: Institut Escola Coves d’en Cimany, Escola Mare de Déu del Coll, and Escola Bressol El Gat Negre. The roadway of Tirso street and the sidewalk of Escola Mare de Déu del Coll will also be widened.
The works, with a budget of 3.6 million euros and an estimated duration of 17 months, also include the maintenance and preservation of the Triassic rock outcrop, as requested by residents. The slope of Ceuta street will be reshaped to widen the roadway and allow for safe vehicle turns, and sidewalks will be widened to improve accessibility.
This initiative is part of the municipality's Pla Endreça to improve public spaces and is included in the package of improvements for the Park Güell surroundings for the 2023-2027 period. During the construction, non-resident traffic and buses 87 and 129 will be diverted, while ensuring pedestrian access, school buses, and emergency vehicles are always maintained.
