The incident, which took place around 12 noon on April 12, 2026, caused a stir among tourists and pedestrians in the city center, near the entrance of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC). Two units from Barcelona Firefighters quickly responded to the scene to control the flames.
Fortunately, the emergency services' swift action allowed the fire to be extinguished without any casualties. Only one hotel worker required medical attention for smoke inhalation, with no serious consequences.
A fire on the rooftop of this central Barcelona hotel has left a large column of smoke that has been seen from various areas of the city and two units of Barcelona Firefighters have had to move to the scene to extinguish the fire.
This event recalls another recent fire in the city, which occurred on March 26, 2026, when an apartment on Passeig de Sant Joan 221, at the corner with Travessera de Gràcia, was gutted. On that occasion, Barcelona Firefighters received the alert at 8:54 PM and deployed nearly a dozen vehicles, including four tanks, two ambulances, a support vehicle, and two command vehicles. Six ambulances from the Servei d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) and officers from the Guàrdia Urbana also responded.
As a result of that incident, two people were treated for smoke inhalation, and 23 residents had to be rehoused after the building was sealed off.
