The incident, which occurred at midday, caused a significant black smoke plume over the Catalan capital, visible even from nearby towns. Both the Port Authority and Barcelona Fire Department have confirmed that no one was injured as a result of the incident.
Firefighters declared the blaze under control around 4 PM. Following this, normal port activity resumed, except in the affected area, where emergency teams continue to work to douse and thoroughly inspect the site. The fire originated in container-hauling tractors, cargo trailers located at Grimaldi's ferry terminal, near the Bridge of Europe, on the Poniente Dock.
“"There are no people affected by the fire."
Although the containers did not hold hazardous materials, the dense smoke column caused concern, with the emergency phone number 112 receiving a total of 76 calls related to the fire. Firefighters received the alert at 1:17 PM. The fire caused damage to 20 semi-trailers.
A total of ten units from the Barcelona Fire Department, including tankers, pump trucks, an ambulance, and support vehicles, were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames. Witnesses and residents from Poble-sec and Montjuïc recorded videos where at least two explosions could be heard as the smoke intensified. Port sources reiterated that no dangerous materials were burned, describing the fire as "spectacular" but without serious personal injuries.
