Politician Gerardo Pisarello has been elected as the Barcelona en Comú candidate for the May 2027 municipal elections, defeating outsider challenger Bob Pop in a three-day internal vote.

The official results will be released this Friday, confirming Pisarello as the successor to Ada Colau's political legacy. Supported by key figures like Minister Ernest Urtasun, Pisarello focused his campaign on institutional experience and the continuity of the urban model established during the last decade in Barcelona.
The challenger, Bob Pop, offered a more disruptive approach, criticizing the party's drift towards technicalities. Despite his popularity among some sectors of the membership, the party establishment rallied behind Pisarello, who aims to become the city's first migrant mayor.
The upcoming campaign faces significant hurdles, as recent polls suggest a decline in support for the Comuns. Current projections place Jaume Collboni and ERC ahead, with Pisarello potentially securing only seven seats in the city council.
