Thermometer showing 38.2 degrees in Girona.

Girona recorded 38.2 degrees Celsius this Wednesday, marking the highest temperature in the province and confirming the persistence of the heatwave affecting Catalonia.

The city of Girona registered a high of 38.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday afternoon, according to data from the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat). This figure makes it the hottest point in the province, during a day marked by intense heat that has been affecting Catalonia and the country since the weekend.
Despite predictions of a slight decrease after the Sant Joan festivities, thermometers continued to record very high values, maintaining a situation similar to previous days. Municipalities in Pla de l’Estany, Selva, and Alt and Baix Empordà also surpassed 37 degrees, with notable readings such as 37.7 degrees in Banyoles, 37.4 in Santa Coloma de Farners, and 37.2 in la Bisbal d’Empordà.
Meteocat had already warned early Wednesday morning that maximum temperatures could range between 34 and 38 degrees. This forecast led to the activation of the intense heat warning not only for Alt and Baix Empordà but also for Gironès and Pla de l’Estany, with a maximum danger level of 3 out of 6.
In response to this situation, Protecció Civil has kept the PROCICAT alert active, reminding the public of the importance of avoiding prolonged sun exposure during the central hours of the day, staying hydrated, and paying special attention to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
Regarding the forecast for the coming days, both the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and Meteocat anticipate that the heat will continue to be a dominant factor. Although a slight drop in temperatures is expected, maximums will remain around 35 degrees in much of the province. From tomorrow, it is anticipated that no Girona county will be under an intense heat warning. The episode may lose some intensity, but thermometers will continue to be above the usual values for June, with a possible decrease of about 3 to 4 degrees early next week.
