Glòria Freixa, the first secretary of the bureau at the Parliament, has officially declared her intention to compete for the leadership of the Junts candidacy in Barcelona. In a statement, Freixa expressed her desire to unite the party's diverse sensitivities to present a cohesive proposal prioritizing the city's future and the party's interests.
With this move, Freixa joins the electoral race for the mayoralty of Barcelona, where Jordi Martí Galbis, the current Junts leader in the city, and Pilar Calvo, a deputy in the Congress, have also confirmed their participation.
The deputy believes it is crucial to begin a new political chapter in Barcelona, moving beyond the policies of the previous administration under Ada Colau and those, she argues, perpetuated by the current government led by Jaume Collboni. Freixa contends that these policies have negatively impacted key areas such as housing, security, cleanliness, mobility, commerce, and economic activity, leading to a decline in Catalan identity within the city.
