The Generalitat, through Protecció Civil (Civil Protection), has modified its initial recommendation and now advises remote work in the province of Barcelona during the visit of Pope Leo XIV. This decision follows the prior recommendation from the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy.
To manage potential impacts on citizen mobility during the two days of the visit, a recommendation has been issued for companies, activities, and workers with workplaces or residences in the province of Barcelona to plan necessary organizational measures.
Additionally, the Procicat alert will be activated, a plan designed for managing risks and emergencies that could affect a large number of people simultaneously.
The Protecció Civil operational center will be located at the Emergency Coordination Center of Catalonia (CECAT), which will maintain contact with police coordination centers (CECOR), the Barcelona City Council's coordination center, and that of Montserrat Mountain. Operators from transport, telecommunications, and emergency and security forces will be present to expedite information exchange.
For citizens wishing to attend the events, emergency teams urge them to consult official sources for schedules, locations, and access points to minimize crowds and facilitate people flow. It is advised to reach designated areas on foot or by public transport well in advance, noting that some events require prior accreditation.
The importance of wearing comfortable clothing and footwear, sun protection, and staying hydrated, especially given the forecast of intense heat, has also been emphasized. It is suggested to seek shaded areas and establish meeting points for groups. The need to carry identification, identify children and vulnerable individuals, and not bring pets is also reminded.
