The RACC presented a study this Tuesday in Barcelona revealing that 50% of pedestrians over 70 find it difficult to walk through the city due to increased vulnerability.

The first pedestrian mobility barometer by RACC, presented at its Diagonal headquarters this Tuesday, shows that safety perception changes drastically with age. While 29% of general respondents find walking in Barcelona difficult, this figure rises to 50% for those over 70.

50% of pedestrians over 70 state that walking through Barcelona is very or quite complicated.

Night mobility is another critical point, with 55% of seniors expressing difficulties. Additionally, 68% of this group prefers signalized crosswalks, especially in the Eixample district, to mitigate risks from speeding vehicles and ensure enough time to cross the street.
Regarding penalties, older pedestrians are less tolerant of technological distractions. 18% of those over 70 would support fining people who walk while distracted by their mobile phone screens.
