Emergency services received the call at 6:59 AM, finding the body of an undocumented man. Several patrols from the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guardia Urbana were dispatched to the scene.
By midday, the Sant Miquel beach was flying a yellow flag due to water quality, although there is generally a strong undertow along the Catalan coast.
With this death, there have now been three fatalities on Catalan beaches since June 15th, the official start date of the summer campaign.
This is not the first drowning incident on Barcelona's coast this year.
Throughout 2025, several deaths were recorded along Barcelona's coastline. These include a young American student found dead in the sea on March 19th, after disappearing from a nightclub in Barceloneta. A 23-year-old man also drowned at Barceloneta beach on July 17th, and a man accidentally fell into the sea at the Gas breakwater on July 3rd. Furthermore, on February 5th, the lifeless body of a Barcelona resident was found on Somorrostro beach, showing no signs of violence.
