Catalan Hotels Welcome 2.4 Million Travelers in May

Catalonia's tourism sector records a peak number of visitors during the fifth month of the year, with an increase in both domestic and international tourists.

Catalonia registered nearly 2.4 million travelers staying in hotels during May, an unprecedented figure for this month, according to provisional data from the INE.

The number of visitors to Catalan hotels in May has reached a historic high, with close to 2.4 million people. This provisional data, published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), represents a significant increase compared to previous years.
Of the total travelers, approximately 1.6 million were from abroad, a 4.4% increase from May last year. Regarding domestic visitors, nearly 773,000 Spanish citizens chose to stay in Catalan hotels, showing a year-on-year rise of 4.5%.
Overnight stays also saw growth, with a 2.8% increase compared to the same period last year, totaling almost 6.2 million records. This marks the second-best performance in the historical series for May, surpassed only by the figures from May 2024.
The province of Barcelona leads the influx of tourists with 1.4 million travelers staying in its hotels. It is closely followed by Girona, with 516,077 visitors, and Tarragona, which recorded 407,462 people. In contrast, the province of Lleida experienced a 5.8% decrease in hotel travelers compared to the previous year.
