The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, remains admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Vall d'Hebron Hospital awaiting further tests to confirm the focus of an inflammatory pathology.

The managing director of Vall d'Hebron Hospital, Albert Salazar, confirmed that the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, is suffering from an "inflammatory pathology" and that the most probable cause is an infection in the lumbar area. Salazar, speaking to Catalunya Ràdio, explained that broad-spectrum antibiotics have already been administered.

"He is a healthy person, who has no comorbidities, and this makes us optimistic that the response will be good."

Illa will remain in the intensive care unit throughout today, Monday, while more tests are conducted to precisely locate the inflammatory focus and determine the type of infection. According to Salazar, the pathology was caught "very early" and the evolution is "correct and usual within normality."
The president was admitted to the hospital this Saturday after experiencing pain and loss of strength in his legs while running. After attending an official event in Ascó (Ribera d'Ebre), he was urgently transferred to the hospital center. Vall d'Hebron Hospital plans to issue an official statement this afternoon to confirm the definitive diagnosis.
