Library workers in Barcelona have started an indefinite Saturday strike and demonstrated to demand better working conditions and adequate staffing, which they consider to be at minimum levels.

The mobilization, which began on April 25, 2026, aims to denounce the precariousness and abusive hours affecting library staff in the city and the provincial network. This situation has led to the closure of facilities such as the Montserrat Abelló library, in the Les Corts district, and the Vapor Vell library, in Sants-Montjuïc, directly impacting users.

"The strike has been supported by 36 of the 40 libraries in Barcelona city."

The protest is part of a widespread demand from workers, who are calling for a substantial improvement in their labor conditions and a staffing level that allows for the provision of quality service to citizens. The Saturday strike will continue until a resolution to the labor dispute is reached.
