Judge investigates the death of architect Josep Juanpere in Vall d'Aran

Authorities are keeping the investigation under seal to clarify the hours leading up to the death of the renowned Barcelona professional.

The Vielha Court of Instruction is conducting a sealed investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of architect Josep Juanpere, who passed away on December 26 at his residence in Baqueira.

Although preliminary autopsy results indicate that the founder of GCA Architects died of natural causes following a heart attack, the magistrate aims to reconstruct the professional's final hours. Reports state that Juanpere visited the Vielha hospital on December 24 after feeling unwell and was discharged the following day.
The investigation, led by the Mossos d'Esquadra, focuses on the brief period between his hospital discharge and his death, which occurred while he was napping. At the time, he was with his current partner.
Josep Juanpere i Miret was a leading figure in contemporary architecture in Barcelona. His legacy includes projects such as the Puig Tower in l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, the Smart 22@ building, and the renovation of the Hotel Arts. He also served on the board of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 until 2024.
