The main works have focused on the general track between Santa Eulàlia and Mercat Nou stations, where sections of rail, drainage systems, and signaling have been renewed. These improvements aim to reduce incidents, increase service reliability, and enhance passenger comfort by decreasing vibrations.
An outdoor expansion joint between Mercat Nou and Santa Eulàlia has also been renewed. This component prevents rail deformation caused by temperature changes, ensuring the track remains in optimal condition.
Additionally, the facilities at the Santa Eulàlia workshop have been modernized, including the renewal of access tracks and the replacement of conventional catenary with rigid catenary, thereby improving safety and operational efficiency.
In total, approximately 2.1 kilometers of track have been renewed, with 170 people working 24 hours a day. The works, carried out by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), began on July 17 with a budget of 11.5 million euros.
The service disruption on L1, from Florida to Plaça de Sants, will last until August 28. Alternative transport includes connections with other metro lines, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, and Cercanías, as well as a dedicated bus service running every 4 to 11 minutes.
